Capitol Cinema Ponoka

OUR HISTORY

Discover the Legacy of Capitol Cinema
The Capitol Theatre was built in 1949 by Hec Labrie on the site of a house and millenery shop owned by Mr. & Mrs. Land Headley. The new cinema shared the street for several years with the neighboring Empress Theatre which was the leading venue for plays and stage shows since 1912.
The Capitol Theatre is a mix of styles which reflect the spread of broad architectural trends into smaller urban centers. The stepped entryway suggests the theatrical 1930s Art Deco style, while the rectangle of upper windows recalls the “International Style” dominant in post World War II commercial building design.
